– The Big Mac Experiment – 73 Vs ?

The Big Mac: The Royal Member of the Hamburger family. Some sources state that a Big Mac contains up to 73 ingredients – and we are not talking about Beet juice for color…

Nonetheless I do have a soft spot for the cheap, fast, artery – clogging and fatty piece of lunch/brunch/dinner! Surely there must be a way to make a Big Mac healthier because looking at the list of ingredients one would think drinking a gallon of fuel is less toxic.

So, today the Quest for a healthy Big Mac begins, the only way to talk about an experiment is implying a Jury.

Meat the Jury:

1.Mathias – 33 years  – Male – Loves Lamb Chops – Hates Pasta ( Yes!! You heard it right 😦 )
2.Buddy    – 2 years x 7 = 14 years – Male – Loves Meat – Hates everything non-meat.
3.Me 🙂      -28 years  – Female – Loves Cheese – Hates Salsify

To limit the number of ingredients I made the Hamburger Buns following a recipe from Smitten Kitchen. The Classic Big Mac :

A double layer of sear-sizzled 100% pure beef mingled with special sauce on a sesame seed bun and topped with melty American cheese, crisp lettuce, minced onions and tangy pickles.”

Here is the recipe for the Sauce: 1/2 cup of Mayo // 2 tbsp of Relish // 1 tbsp of Mustard // 1 tsp of White Vinegar // 1 tsp of Sugar // 1 tsp of Onion powder // 1 tsp of garlic powder // 1 tsp of Paprika I used as many Organic ingredients as possible ( 100 % pure organic beef, organic onion powder etc.)

CONCLUSION: Buddy likes every Burger, Mathias preferred mine because “you could taste what you ate” and I shamefully have to admit that I thought my bun was too thick therefore equal scores but! the taste of the Organic Pure Beef was packed with flavor compared to the Big Mac.
In terms of time and costs I think it’s worth having a Burger that you know how it was made and where it comes from… Sorry Big Mac. (this doesn’t mean I will never eat you again 😉 )
